It’s February, the month to celebrate love. Valentine’s week is about to begin and I can already feel that ‘love is in the air’. The gift stores are embellished with red colour and are buzzing with energy.

Personally, I don’t fancy the hullabaloo around the Valentine week or the day, for that matter. However, I do know that, after Christmas, this is one occasion when Bakery goodies are much in demand. I love this time when fresh berries, chocolates and creamy mousses are celebrated in every bakery kitchen. Hence, purely for the love of desserts, I enjoy Valentine’s week.

So was it difficult to decide on which Pastry Shop to check out first? I have few of my old favourites. Though,  more or less, I knew, what they would be doing for Valentine.

That being the case, I remembered about the time when I gorged on an amazing spread of desserts at La Baguette, The Imperial for their Christmas Banter. Thus, I decided to go back to Imperial’s Pastry Shop for their Valentine’s spread as well.

Known for importing most of their ingredients from France, La Baguette is one of the finest bakeries in Delhi to be serving European baked goodies. As I walked towards the pastry shop situated at the entrance of 1911, I met Chef Prem Kumar, Executive Sous Chef, looking after the display of cakes and desserts. Talented, humble and fun loving, he’s one of the few chefs to let out some of his magic tricks to a newbie like me.

He had put up a beautiful display of cakes for Valentine’s Day, including heart–shaped Red Velvet Cake and Chocolate Truffle, two of the much-loved flavours for Valentine’s.

The Red Velvet cake had pink and orange colours, which could instantly make you fall in love with it. And not just that, the chef had also prepared an edible rose with Ready To Roll (RTR) fondant. Adorned with rose petals and orchids, the cakes signified “love on a platter” quite literally.

For the Chocolate Truffle Cake, he had used Tuile, in house Chocolates and Chocolate garnish on top of the Ganache. This would be perfect for those, who posses a weakness for chocolates. In all forms of shape, you will experience the magic of the best aphrodisiac ingredient: Chocolate.

Apart from these special cakes, you can also indulge in Chocolate Mousse garnished with fresh strawberries, Strawberry Tart, Tiramisu and everyone’s favourite, the salty puff pastry – Mille Feuille with custard.

Even though I don’t have a sweet tooth, this was a trip to wonderland. Seldom do I enjoy having desserts so much. I guess the fragrance of Valentine’s Day in the air did its magic.

So if you’re looking for ideas to make your Valentine’s Day special, you know where to head. For yummy desserts and a cup of coffee in a royal set up, let you and your Valentine enjoy the luxury to the fullest, only at La Baguette.

NOTE: You can buy Valentine’s Day special cakes from La Baguette, The Imperial, between 12-14 February, 2016.
