Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined, to find a place like May Day Book store in the area it’s located in. When I stumbled onto May Day book Store, I wasn’t sure if I would find something worthwhile. However, I decided to visit anyway. I followed the navigation and reached near Satyam Multiplex in West Patel Nagar. I had never gone beyond that point and felt apprehensive about following the navigation further. Nevertheless, I went ahead and found myself standing in front of the book café.

And once I entered, I felt I had found a place that had some hidden treasures.

May Day, essentially a Bookstore, is certainly a heaven for Book Lovers. The variety of books available here is amazingly diverse. The quite and peaceful vibe of this place, allows you to spend hours, and you almost loose track of time.

The staff is amiable and accommodating. They look after you very well and once you pick up your book to read, they leave you alone on the comfortable couches of the café. One can even request for a cup of coffee/tea and they gladly oblige. It just makes the whole experience cozier. You can pay for the coffee/tea, as much as you like.

The café also houses a Theatre arena, in an adjacent hall, where a lot of activities are organized. Since, the May Day Book café is run by a theatre enthusiast, the management organizes plays, book reading sessions, book launches and documentary screenings.

Primarily a bookstore and library, May Day certainly doubles up as an interesting hangout as well. However, for people wanting to work on computers, there is no provision for Wi-Fi or proper seating space. There are restroom facilities as well.

The only drawback is the café is a little difficult to locate. The best way to reach the café is by metro, Shadipur being the nearest station.

I can’t stop myself from saying this yet again, that I can’t thank my job enough for letting me explore my own city like never before. It’s because of what I do, I am able to meet so many new interesting people and have such enriching experiences.

Knowing this makes my job feel nothing like a job and my life a lot more exciting.
