CPStories

The restoration work of Connaught Place started a few years ago. Helplessly I witnessed the construction ruining the charm of the most iconic market of the city. But ever since it has been revamped, many in the hospitality industry have grabbed the opportunity to give CP a much-needed uplift. Ambrosia Bliss, 5 months old now, is one such place.

Spread over a huge place in three different sections- Restaurant, Lounge and a Corporate Hall. Although, each section is different from the other, however, the entire place has a regal vibe. Just like everything else, the menu too is quite grand. Thankfully, this multi-cuisine restaurant has specialty chefs for each cuisine and that’s where they win.

The staff is extremely gracious, efficient and make sure you get the best of dishes from each cuisine. Lilly who looked after our table, served with a huge smile and made me hog like never before.

We were literally in a food coma by the time we wee done with the grand feast. The flavours were so rich and distinct, with each and every dish standing out.

The Mocktails were fresh, fruity and refreshing. With the summers approaching, it won’t be wrong to say that these drinks are a must have.

In the Non-Vegetarian Indian kebabs platter, one dish deserves a special mention – Fish Kasundi. The pieces of boneless fish marinated in mustard, were grilled to perfection. It felt as a welcome change from the steamed version that is usually served everywhere. The Afghani Chicken, Seekh Kebab, and Chicken Tikka were full of spices and aromatics and the mint dip served alongside, made it absolutely blissful.

Tamarind Tofu Cups – Tofu Cubes with peanuts, galangal, and fresh chili, along with tangy tamarind sauce in a crunch flaky cup. Served with a sweet chilli dip on the side, this Thai dish is packed with countless flavours. These little delicious cups were high on umami.

Philadelphia Cheese rolls were made with Cheese coated in a crunchy batter and fried. It was served along with sweet and sour chilly sauce. The crunch on the outside amply complimented the smooth melted cheese inside.

This was followed by Chicken and Shitake Dimsums, which are unique, as they are served open. The pungent flavoured Shitake mushrooms and the tender chicken are coated in mushroom sauce. The dish has a strong Chinese flavour that might seem unusual to those accustomed to eating Indianised Chinese food.

My favourite among the oriental dishes was Steamed Fish Cakes, served with Chilli Mustard, Soya Ginger, Lemon Coriander and Black Bean dips. Comprising of minced fish with coconut, fresh herbs and turmeric, this particular dish is healthy and tastes heavenly. The dips further add flavour to this subtle yet delectable dish.

Prawns in Chilli Mustard seemed like a fusion of Chinese and Bengali flavours. The prawns were marinated in a mix of tangy chili Chinese sauce and Bengali mustard sauce. Tossed with crunchy onions and capsicum, this dish is an interesting and fresh version of Chilli prawns.

We had just recovered from the blitz of divine food, when the sticky pudding arrived on our table. Served with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream, the pudding was decent. However, the Phirni literally took the cake! The fusion of Kheer and Rabri topped with Kesar and Pistachio, was the perfect conclusion to an epic meal.

At Ambrosia Bliss, meal for two costs Rs 2000 (with taxes, sans alcohol).

Unlike my earlier experiences at multi cuisine restaurants, where they serve nothing but confusion, Ambrosia Bliss has got it right in many ways. Majestic décor, comfortable (rooftop) seating and above all, a great medley of scrumptious delicacies – sounds like the perfect recipe for a wonderful meal?
