Amalfi | Lunch at a beautiful Italian eatery (Delhi)

A perfect Sunday afternoon is an afternoon at Amalfi. Having heard a lot of good things about the place from a friend I (also my siblings) drove all the way to GK-2 from Connaught place. I was so happy that it turned out to be more than what I’d expected.

The staff was extremely nice and courteous. We were shown both the floors and were given a choice to choose the table. We decided to sit on the first floor, as it seemed livelier.

The décor is very soothing and pretty. The fountain and flooring of the upper floor (pebble street) will remind you of Italian alleys. The lamps were very pretty and so were the planters. I think they can do away with some Morrocon lamp and a dragon wall hanging.

Mr Panwar the General Manager of the restaurant personally attended us and made sure that all is in place for us. He and the other service guy Mr Manish explained the menu to us.

They have a separate Sunday brunch menu (5 Course meal consisted of soup, salad, appetizers, main dish, pizza and Dessert)

But since we wanted to try dishes from a-la-carte menu we decided to order what was recommended to us.

We got assorted Breads (Foccacia, Rye bread, Gissini sticks and mini Croissants with Dip to start the meal with.

1) Filetto de Dentice n Padella (pan seared red snapper fillet served with mashed potato, sautéed vegetables and garlic butter sauce)

2) Pizza con prosciuntto e Rucola (tomato sauce, Parma ham, rocket leaves and Mozzarella cheese)

3) Spaghetti alla Amatriciana (tomato sauce, pancetta, onion, red chilli and pecorino cheese)

4) Tiramisu for dessert.

We ate like there’s no tomorrow. The portions are huge and very filling. I can’t decide which was my favorite amongst all the dishes. Maybe the Fish scored a little more than other dishes.

As expected the Tiramisu was very tasty, made with good quality of Mascarpone cheese. It had right balance of cheese and sponge soaked in cofffee-expresso.

We were overjoyed to see Chocolate fondant on our table served along with Tiramisu. It was on the house and I was delighted by their generous gesture.

The chocolate fondant was served with Vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. It’s a very classical way of serving the fondant. The chocolate oozed out of the fondant and it was the yummiest dessert ever.

They kept the presentation of the food very classy. I came to know the Chef has earlier worked at the Oberoi’s and Fio, so I guess its coming from there.

Oh did I mention that they have Ladies Night on Wednesday’s where cocktails (Cosmopolitan, Mojito and vodka shots) are complementary. And on Friday’s they have Retro Night where there are Happy hours on beverages with Dj in the house.

The bill came up to Rs 2906 Inclusive of all taxes.

I will highly recommend Amalfi to everyone wanting to have tasty Italian food served with a lot of care and love.

Amalfi is the name of a small town in Italy famed for its production of Limoncello Liqueur ; Amalfi in Delhi is trying to create Italy here for us. I guess they’re doing it pretty well.
