The Imperial - 1911 Drinks
The Imperial – 1911 Drinks

A photo essay of Cocktails and Summer Coolers at 1911 Bar, The Imperial, New Delhi

It’s that time of the year when I tend to survive more on fluids rather than heavy spiced up meals. Especially, during the day, the weather is excruciatingly hot.

So, if given a choice to have drinks with Watermelon, Mango, Strawberries, Lemon, Litchi and Mint all day long, with a little spirit added to them, I’d be the happiest girl in town! Though I am no expert in all things fermented, brewed or distilled, I do love to indulge in them, once in a while. So, this isn’t a review. It’s more of a story about how I spent my day at The Imperial’s 1911 Bar, cooling off with some brilliant concoctions.

The Imperial hotel, with its remarkably beautiful spaces has always felt overwhelming charming. However, the bar, 1911, in particular, is a museum of sorts. Portraits of men in uniform who belonged to various battalions under British Raj, adorn the walls. In fact, it’s the only place in India boasting of a Victoria Cross, British Army’s highest gallantry award, as a part of its collection.

I found the plush leather chairs really comfortable and they looked like props straight out of the colonial era. And if you ever plan to throw a party, they have two private rooms Hardinge Room & Lutyen’s Baker Room.

As they say if you get a beautiful subject, half your work is done. Gurjas and I went berserk shooting the drinks, in every nook and cranny of the bar.

As for the drinks, we were amused to discover that their signature cocktail Chak De Fatte had 7 different spirits. So, for anyone who likes to live it large, this is the place to go to.

In case you prefer non-alcoholic drinks, they have Basil & Mango, Raspberry & Mint and even a Jaljeera amongst many such interesting blends to choose from.

Once we finished capturing the fancy cocktails and some delightful summer coolers, Ruchi and Aparupa, one of the nicest people we’ve met through the world of blogging, joined us. From talking about Organic Farming, Cow Milk to having a dream house in the mountains, we had lots to talk about. It was a fun afternoon with friends, over some truly refreshing drinks. Now who wouldn’t want that?
